Deeptha holds a master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs in addition to a master's degree in Journalism and Communication from Madras University. During her masters she interned with the International Water Management Institute and as a research scholar at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, she conducted research related to the dietary quality of rural households. She worked for a year as a Programme Manager at the Centre for Innovative Financial Design (CIFD) at IFMR and joined CMF in August 2009 as a Programme Head.
