NREGA Data
We have included a compilation of datasets used for Andhra Pradesh National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) analysis. These are also publicly available through various government agencies in raw form.

Spandana Baseline
This database provides information on 2,800 households living in slums in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (India's fifth largest city) in 2005. Information was collected on household composition, education, employment, asset ownership, decision-making, expenditure, borrowing, saving, and any businesses currently operated by the household or stopped within the last year.

Housing Microfinance Data
The study explores how best to design and provide a housing microfinance product through an MFI which is specifically targeted to new home construction by low-income communities. The motivation for the study came from the rural banking dvision of a major Indian private bank that wished to offer a rural housing microfinance product through MFIs. As such, the research agenda was determined by product details that the bank wished to iron out.

Financial Inclusion Data [zip 370 KB]
This database provides information regarding 999 Below Poverty Line (BPL) Households living in Shorapur and Gulbarga blocks of Gulbarga district in Northern Karnataka in August-September 2007. The survey collected details on household information, education levels, household wealth, employment, the financial inclusion drive and levels of awareness amongst the target sample, saving, access to banks and borrowing.

Loan Contract Information Data
Part one of this database provides information regarding 299 rural microfinance clients, 150 of whom were clients of the microfinance institution (MFI) Sonata and living in Allahabad district and 149 of whom were clients of the MFI BSS and living in Bandalore district. Part two of the database provides information regarding 40 rural microfinance clients who were all clients of the MFI Sonata in Jabalpur district. All borrowers surveyed were first time borrowers.

VWS First Intervention Baseline Data
The study examines whether a difference in repayment schedules (weekly to monthly) increase default rates amongst MFI clients. The study will focus on the following variables: repayment rates, the organization’s transaction costs, and the capacity of households to smooth consumption and to manage their own cash flows. This understanding will not only provide useful inputs for MFIs on how to reduce costs, but will also be critical to the design of credit products and even of other products, such as savings and insurance, that aim to help households smooth consumption.
