Our Researchers
Rishi has joined SEFC in April 2010. He has 17 years of experience in the financial services industry. He has managed roles in sales, risk and collection during a 11 year stint with the asset backed finance business of Citi, India. He has extensive experience of working with priority sector clients as well as the large logistics and infrastructure companies across the country. Prior to joining SEFC, Rishi completed the 1 year MBA program at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Sharon joined SEFC in July 2008. She holds a BA and a MA from the Université du Québec à Montréal and a Msc. in Social Research Methods (Development Studies) from the London School of Economics, UK. Prior to joining SEFC, she worked for several years as an economic consultant at Analysis Group in Montreal. Her area of expertise was healthcare outcomes, economic litigation and anti-trust cases, with a strong focus on analytical aspects. More recently she was as a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore at their Centre for Public Policy. There she worked on a comparative study of Indian socio-economic surveys over the past thirty years as well as on trends in childhood poverty.
Sudha Krishnan is a Research Analyst at ideas42, supervising joint research projects with SEFC. In this position, she is responsible for coordinating the design, exploration, and execution of economic development ideas. Prior to joining ideas42, Sudha worked as a research associate in Bangalore, India, on an evaluation of a micro-credit program. She obtained her B.A. from Wellesley College and Master's in Pacific International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego.
Preethi did her graduation in Commerce (University of Madras) and holds a PGDM (Finance and Marketing) from the Institute for Financial Management and Research, Chennai. The focus areas in PGDM were International Financial Management, Investment Management, Derivatives and Risk Management, Mergers & Acquisitions, Marketing of Financial Services and Marketing Research. She has joined SEFC in April 2006.
Sandya did her graduation in Agriculture from Kerala Agricultural University and holds a PGPRM from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. During her studies she interned with M S Swaminathan Research Foundation in studying Organic farming – bioinput enterprises and its market linkages. After PGPRM, Sandya spent 22 months with Development Alternatives, an NGO headquartered at New Delhi, where she worked on ICT services (Social interventions – TARA Akshar - an adult literacy program, Vocational training and Community groups) spread across UP, MP, Haryana and Punjab. She joined SEFC in January 2007.
Balajee holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Sathyabama Engineering College and pursued his MBA from DOMS, University of Madras specializing in Finance. After his MBA, he joined ICICI Bank as a Senior Officer for Small and Medium Enterprises where he worked for one and a half years interacting with SME clients to understand their financial needs. He moved on to HDFC Bank as a Deputy Manager in the Emerging Corporates Group for their Small and Medium Enterprise lending division and then worked with a financial consultancy for one and half years before moving on to SEFC in June 2009.
Max holds a BA in Economics and International Relations from Connecticut College. Most recently, he completed an MSc in economics at the London School of Economics, where he focused specifically on the economics of developing countries. He also has two years work experience as a business analyst at VistaPrint in the US and Spain, where he worked on product testing, web analytics and customer modeling. He joined SEFC in July 2009.
Summer Starr holds a Master degree in Pacific International Affairs with a concentration in International Development from the University of California San Diego and a BA in International Studies from the Jackson School at the University of Washington. Summer has worked previously with IFMR at the Centre for Microfinance on a microenterprise training impact study associated with SEWA Bank in Ahmedabad. Her international work experience also includes creating microenterprise training in Kenya and starting a microfinance program in Ghana with Africa Aid. She joined SEFC in July 2009.
Arindam holds a BSc in Mathematics from University of Madras and an MSc in Economics from Anna University, Chennai. During his studies he worked on developing and implementing a mathematical teaching aid for the visually handicapped. Before joining SEFC, he worked as an economic consultant at Nathan Associates (India). His focus areas were litigation economics and sports economics, with an added emphasis on analytics. His main interests are in the fields of applied microeconomics and development economics, particularly in the areas of poverty mitigation and socio-economic impact analysis. He joined SEFC in August 2009.
Kanishka graduated from Georgetown University with a Masters in Public Policy and a specialization in International Policy and Development. He also completed a program in International Management and Development from Oxford University and a Diploma in Refugee and Humanitarian Emergencies from the Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Studies at Georgetown. He is interested in exploring ideas related to migration and development. His prior experience includes internships with the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars in Washington D.C. and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in Damascus, Syria. He joined SEFC in August 2009.
Arjun holds a BA in economics from Yale University. Upon graduating, he worked as a paralegal in New York, assisting defense attorneys with antitrust and financial fraud cases. He then spent a year teaching English before beginning his legal studies at the UCLA School of Law in Los Angeles. His work experience includes community advocacy and mediation in the South Asian community in Los Angeles. Later, as an intern at a large corporate law firm in Mumbai, he worked on capital leases and regulation of high-tech exports. After obtaining his JD and taking the California State Bar exam, he joined SEFC in August 2009.
Hui-chin holds a MS in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University, with a concentration in Policy Analysis. She had three years of professional experience in the US mortgage industry, where she gained expertise in credit analytics and modeling. She also worked extensively in housing economics research, with a focus on affordable and fair lending. Hui-chin is a graduate of National Taiwan University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She joined SEFC in August 2009.
Amritesh did his graduation in Economics and Mathematics from Delhi University and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management) from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. During his Post Graduation studies, he interned with Ujjivan Financial Service Pvt. Limited, New Delhi on “Identification and feasibility analysis of Potential Markets for Ujjivan Financial Services Pvt. Ltd. in NCR (National Capital Region)”. He has worked with Man Envirocare Research centre based in New Delhi at various levels and also with Arth Foundation on Home school project for 33 months. He joined SEFC in October 2009.
